i think that the germans were surprised that hitler was going to go this far with the torture. but most of the germans were brainwashed by the Propaganda an started to give the nazi party support. whereas some thought it is not fair for them to be blamed andbe threatened for nothing they have done. there were a few petitions on this subject and debates. mostly the dbaates were done by germans who were friends with a jew.
They loved Hilter and went along with what he wanted. He was worshiped like a God. To get a feeling for this I suggest you watch film of the rallies of Hitler and the people of Germany. Even today those who were alive then still think of him in those terms. I lived in Germany for 5 years in the 1970's and remember seeing records sold of his speeches at record stores.
They supported him.
The Jews were the main target in Germany. The German genocide is also called the Holocaust.
That notion is inaccurate. Nazi antisemitism was obsessive and hysterical, but the notion that the Holocaust itself was 'mass hysteria' is based on the mistaken assumption that the German population was howling for Jewish blood and the Nazi leadership obliged, so to speak. The Holocaust was not driven by the German population. It was driven by forces much higher up the hierarchy.
1.5 children were murdered by German Soldiers and their collaborators during the holocaust.
Berlin, the German capital, though he did have a mountain retreat. Hitler, of course, did not think of that time as 'The Holocaust', which is the name given to that time by Jews. Hitler was trying to make most of the world subservient to Nazi Germany, partly by genocide of the Jews.
By 1939-1940 the SS had become a kind of business (as well as a branch of the terror apparatus and the German army). There was no budget for the Holocaust and it was paid for by the victims, by: # Hiring out slave labourers to private companies. # Selling the victims' possessions.

A Holocaust is not a regular occurrence. It was a policy of genocide instigated by the Nazi German state up to 1945. Hopefully there will be no "next Holocaust".
The German currency from 1924-1948 was the Reichsmark (abbreviated RM).
