If you mean do you have to purchase a crochet hook, no you don't. You can make your own. You CAN make a chain without a crochet hook, just using your fingers (just did it myself). Working into the chain without a tool would be more difficult, and would probably be more frustrating than fun.
To crochet using your fingers only, use the same procedure as when using a hook, but just use your fingers instead. You will end up using your forefinger as a "hook" holding the parts of the stitch on your finger, and "hooking" your finger to "draw through" the material to make the stitch. I would hazard that the "best" stitches to make using a finger crochet technique would be the shorter stitches--slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet. I think that with taller stitches, you might begin to not have room on your forefinger to "hold" the loops necessary to make the stitches. Look at the attached video link and see finger crocheting single crochet stitches is being done.
Crochet is a French word with several meanings."Faire du crochet" is knitting (sort of) threads to make lace-like fabrics.Un crochet (masculine noun) is the crochet hook. It is also generaly speaking any hook, as used as butchers to hang pieces of meat, or by a lumberjack to tie a loop around a trunk. In boxing, the French word crochet is commonly called a hook.

You can crochet a chain stitch with your fingers, but doing other stitches will be impossible unless your work is very very loose. It is technically possible to crochet with a knitting needle, but it's not really worth all the fiddling and frustration.Other contributors have said:Yes! You can. It is actually easier to crochet without the hook, in my opinion. Just make a slip knot on your finger and pull the long string through the loop, and pull on the long string to make the loop smaller.not for me! you weave the yarn through your finger when your using the hook, and you can't do that when the knots on your finger. plus the hook has to twist, but theres no hook on your finger. although one time i crocheted a whole scarf with my fingers.
It would be a challenge, because the pencil generally is assumed to have a pointed tip, not a hook, which is required for crochet.
To join knittted squares together to make a blanket, there are several things you can do. One way is to sew the squares together. You could choose any sewing stitch, as long as it is use to join material. Another way to join the squares together is to crochet around your squares and then do a crochet slip stitch with both squares held together across your crocheted row.
If it's a bulky yarn then you should use hook size H and up. If it's thinner then stick to the smaller size hooks. If your hook is too small then the yarn will not fit on the hook and it may snag on the hook as your working.
Almost like you make the double crochet. Wrap the yarn over your hook or yarn over, put it through the loop and pull the yarn through, then wrap the yarn over the hook again and put it through all three loops on the hook
