The surface of a Mentos is not smooth; it has microscopic pits, or nucleation sites, on it. These pits cause the CO2 in Diet Coke to come out of solution very quickly at the bottom of the bottle. The result is rapids release of the CO2 and foam in an explosion. This is actually the physical change that occurs. Due to the addition of caffeine, potassium benzoate, and aspartame with the CO2 in the Diet Coke, the reaction is much greater--this would be the chemical change.The Mythbusters did an entire show devoted to discovering why this happens. Yes Coca Cola has potassium. Coca Cola Classic has 0mg of potassium but most diet pops the company makes do. Such as Coca Cola Zero which has 62mg of potassium and diet Coca Cola has 68mg of potassium.
About 33 grams in coke which is roughly a third of our daily allowance if you go by these. And no sugar in diet coke but i think there is a lot of sweetener in the diet drinks.

The zero calorie cokes are made w/ splenda instead of regular sugar so tht there is 0 calories thts really the main difference. Diet coke is supposed 2 have something in it that makes it bad 4 u tho
