The kakapo is the world's heaviest parrot, being flightless. It can weigh up to 3.5 kg (7 pounds) for males, and 2 kg (over 4 pounds) for females. Males have been known to exceed 4 kg. Male kakapo can reach a head to tail length of 60 cm, or 24 inches.
This is larger than the kaka and the kea. The kea can grow up to 50 cm in length, and has a weight of between 800 grams and 1kg. The kaka is very much smaller, with a length of up to 45 cm and weighing up to 475 g for males and 425 g for females.

The kakapo is a parrot. It belongs to the family Strigopidae, which is just the New Zealand parrots. The only other members of this family are the kea (Nestor notabilis) and the kaka (Nestor meridionalis).
