~0.5 cm/year
The earth has gone through many geological eras. A number of them lie one above the other at The Grand Canyon. Thus, it is possible to look at the sides of the canyon walls and see the geology of the region. In many places mountain building caused the earth to fold. The layers became a jumble. In others erosion carried off much material. In such areas it is impossible to see the history of the area in a neat systematic manner.
One agent of erosion is by running water. It affects the earth's landform by the rapid running of water erodes rock. Also it depends on the slope as well. For example, water eroded much of earths land form and created the Grand Canyon. Another agent is wind. Wind causes ripples on sand dunes as well as holes in rocks.
Can you be more specific? Sounds like Beach Erosion which is already your answer.
Over time the moving water carries particles of the river bed and banks away, and if there happens to be a flood that can happen much more quickly.
It becomes much more susceptible to erosion.
Smaller? It has got bigger!
About 200 million years.
A very small fraction of an inch in a normal year.
After weathering has broken some of the pieces of of a rock or a object erosions part comes in. Erosion carries the pieces to another place and the pieces start to form another object leaving the other object with a cool shape such the grand canyon.

The Grand Canyon is a great display of Earth's geologic history. It can show researchers Earth's movements and offers information on steam erosion and volcanism which can be seen and studied in the canyon.
This question is based off of a theory of Pangea. If the theory were fact, then it could be due to the erosion of the beaches and island. Much like the colorado river and the grand canyon, constant water pushing and pulling away from a land mass changes it's shape.
All deserts are affected by erosion. There are several different types of erosion, and while the deserts may be unaffected by some of them, such as water erosion, because obviously, deserts don't get much rain. Deserts are affected by wind erosion, though. As the winds blow in the desserts, it wears away at the soil.
