each state has a minimum you must carry, but these are min. for instance the state i live in only requires 10k for property damage...that's not nearly enough..you can't hardly get a good used car for 10k anymore...this min. would mean : you are At Fault and the damage you caused to the other vehicle (or vehicles/fences etc..all damage caused from one accident to the property of others) was say 15k (not uncommon), your policy would/could only pay 10k and now you are left with 5k to pay... so you need to review it carefully, i personally have 50k on property damage, and 100/300k on bodily injury and uninsured motorist...what both of those coverages are: 100k (limit) per person and 300k per accident for any injuries i cause (under the bodily injury coverage) and same for uninsured motorist..that coverage pays for the injuries caused by an uninsured motorist.......clear as mud right?
you only need pl and pd on a used car and full coverage on a new car
You can budget your car insurance by changing the coverage that you have on your car. Liability only insurance, or your state minimum is going to be the cheapest insurance but doesn't provide much coverage. As you add coverage the price goes up.
If the car is paid off, then only liability insurance is needed. If it is not, then you will need a full insurance coverage plan.
You ALWAYS need insurance on a financed car, and it has to be full coverage. Doesn't matter what state you're in.
comprehensive coverage
you need to have Comprehensive coverage on your policy.
You may not need collision coverage but you should consider comprehensive coverage which covers theft, vandalism etc.
you need full coverage insurance- if you do not- then you must either have a major credit card (not debit) or purchase the companies coverage.
All rental car co. are required by law to carry at least the minimum liability coverage. Purchasing insurance from a rental place is NOT a term and/or requirement, however, liability coverage is very low, speaking of $ amount. You can use your car insurance also. Each rental car co will sell you "an additional" insurance coverage. Unfortunately, I am not aware what the charge per day is.
In Nebraska, you're actually not required to have full coverage. You'll only need to have minimum liability insurance.
It depends on what company you have insurance with, where you live, and how much coverage you have been paying for. I have The Hartford Insurance. I was in one, I was at fault and they paid for repairs on the other guy's car and my car. It all depends on how much coverage you pay for in your premiums. Yes.
Full coverage requirements have nothing to do with the age of the car. If you still make payments on the car then you still have to have full coverage. If you own the car outright, then you do not have to have it.
