At that rate, I was cleaning the filter TWICE a day, but the green was definitely coming out. In just over a week (adding the shock treatment about every other day), I had crystal clear water, then just let it settle down to normal levels over the course of the next few days. Leaving the cover off helps, since the sunlight helps burn off excess chlorine.

The "S" in the middle there stands for stabilizer. All the stuff is is a layer of "Sunscreen" for your chlorine.

Not hurt the pool but it can inhibit chlorine from sanitizing properly in high amounts. If its to high just drain some water out and refill with fresh.

If you're adding chlorine to bring the level up to 2.0 or 3.0ppm, then wait minimum 1 hour before swimming, and be sure the filter is on. If you're shocking the pool and bringing the level up to 10-12ppm, you need to wait until the pool reaches a safe level as stated above.
