But a higher level earthquake (a prime example being the one in Japan in 2011) will cause mass damage and possibly a Tsunami depending on the location. Earthquakes of high magnitudes can cause buildings to fall, bridges to collapse, and can kill thousands. Tsunamis make that number go up.
