The Renaissance nobles lived in cities and were active in trade, banking, and public life. This shows that the Renaissance nobles were smarter than the medieval nobles

Much of the time the majority of the poorer populous that existed in medieval times were not paid with money, but rather, in return for work usually, their employers paid them in food and shelter - in essence they basically worked for their life; their basic living requirements. Thats probably the closest you would get to 'average' in medieval times because only a minority of the population was made up of nobles, knights and 'higher' people of the sort.
The medieval period ended a while ago, and all the goldsmiths from that period are dead, so they don't get paid at all.

There is no "royalty" in The Sims 3. There are however nobles/kings/queens and such in the Sims Medieval, which is very much like Sims 3 but during Medieval times.
A villein in the medieval times was a step up from slavery, had to do hardworking chores and didn't get paid much.
