Speaking from personal experience - I would rather go to either a SPECIALIST reptile shop or a private reptile breeder !
Places like Petco are GENERAL pet shops - often their detailed knowledge is limited, and at best far too sketchy to be useful. Additionally, there is no real guarantee of the quality and health of their livestock.
Specialist shops and are more familiar with the intricate details of reptiles, often dealing with only one or two experienced breeders. Private breeders often have many years experience of breeding reptiles (25 years in MY case !)
I live in NJ and Snakes cost $80.00. I think that's very expensive. If you are lucky enough to go to a reptile show, you may be able to get ball pythons for $15. I want to go to a reptile show soo bad for ball pythons.
