Hermit crabs need distilled water so you can buy some at a groshery store a gallon for acouple dollars.
Hermit crabs also need SEA salted water because they need to walk around in it to harden their exoskeleton. Do NOT use table salt, or tap water because the clorine in the tap and the chemicals in the tabel salt can sufocate your hermie's gills (they need 70-85% humidity and they can drown).
It should cost for a hermit crab at least 7 dollars but the supplies will cost about 60 dollars unless you get a big cage it will cost 75

Never give/spray your hermit crab with tap water. It constricts their gills and WILL kill them. Use bottled or distilled water, you can also buy hermit crab water conditioner at your local pet store for about 3 dollars. It will give instructions on how much to put into the tap. Salt water is mostly for soaking, so just put some in a shallow bowl in your crabitat, as well as fresh water, and make sure that its shallow enough so the smallest crab won't drown but the biggest crab soak in it. Hope that helps! :)
Sometimes mites can kill hermit crabs it depends if the mites are all over the cage and on the hermit crabs. if there are only like 3 it should not harm them as much. mites are tiny white bugs they can also be black. mites will harm the hermit crab if there are tons. just clean your tank if you mites. by Josie j
