that is like asking how much does a contractor make, or how much does a self employed plumber make... it depends on the individual and several factors. Are you selling new cars or used? how motivated are you? how big is the lot? how much inventory do you push a month? how good is your location? I'm 25 and have owned a used carlot for 3 years in a good spot. i have like 3 salesman, 1 detail guy, and 1 mechanic. first year made like 50k, second year made like 80k, and just did some figures for 2010 and it looks like ill be somewhere around 140k. it is hard work though...... i sell like 3 to 5 thousand dollar cars and also do in house financing. I'm always in court. lol whether someone stops paying me and i have to reposes a car and sue for the remainder or because i sell a car and it tears up and they want there money back. Oh, and on a second note some owners that i know from the auctions make the amount of money i make look like pennies. The most money is in by here pay here. a buddy of mine has a the biggest by here pay here lott in the sstate and he has around 30 to 40 million on the books. "on the books" JUST means that is how muhc money people owe him over a 4 or 5 year period. and the cool thing is that he stated broke just like me. hes been doing it for 20 years ago and me 3, so i have some catching up to do.
