Any of these gemstones can be priced according to physical characteristics of the stone. First, diamond -- valued by:

  • cut
  • colour
  • clarity
  • carat weight

Second, star sapphire -- valued by:

  • clear and well-defined arms. (An ideal star sapphire displays six equidistant and clear arms.)

Third, ruby -- valued by:

  • colour: most prized being of a blood red color, and
  • clarity -- lack of visible inclusions
