At Fred Astaire Dance studios, teachers are paid based on a number of factors. There are three different pay scales for FADS instructors. Teachers can "level up" and get paid more by taking tests that measure their knowledge of the bronze, silver, and gold dance steps.

Teachers get paid different amounts for different kinds of lessons. If they are teaching an introductory lesson and they are a bottom level teacher, they make about 8.00 for that lesson. If the teacher gets the student to sign up for a package, the teacher gets a commission off the sale of those lessons. The amount of the commission depends on the level of the teacher.

Teachers also get paid BIG bucks for selling competition packages and trips to their students.

The amount of money that ballroom teachers at Fred Astaire Dance Studios is highly variable based on how many lessons they teach a week and how experienced they are. At FADS, you don't get paid unless you're teaching.

This has been my experience. I'm not sure how it works in other franchises or in independent dance studios. I'm sure it's very variable.
