In order to become a pediatrician, an individual needs to attend medical school, complete a residency program and begin practicing as a doctor. Different schools charge different tuitions so the price varies significantly. Fellowships and scholarships that reduce or eliminate the personal financial responsibility are also available for qualified candidates.

The costs of being a pediatrician are variable by nation. For example in certain countries where health care is nationalized medical school itself is wholly subsidized. In the United States the cost to attend medical school can range from more than 100,000$ (as of September 2014) to free, or free due to scholarships such as military medicine. After medical school one enters residency for pediatric medicine which is free, and involves a stipend. That being said once in residency medical school graduates may have to begin repayments on student loans which is a cost that must be considered.
