It depends what you want to do. Many geologists only need a bachelor's of science, which can be obtained in 4 years at a university. Some must go on to get a masters (usually 2 years), and even a PhD (several more years).

f you wish to become a geologist, you should begin studying geology as early as possible before you finish your mandatory schooling. You should then look for colleges with geology programs. After selecting a school and a study curriculum, obtain a bachelor's or masters degree in geology.

Geology is essentially an amalgamation of the three main sciences: Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Maths also plays a very significant role. As such, the study of these subjects is very important. Then it is normal to undertake (as a minimum) an undergraduate degree in geology.
