Did Harry Potter face a giant serpent called the Basilisk?
Yes, Harry was forced to battle the Basilisk in the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.Looking at the eyes of a Basilisk will kill you instantly - thankfully Fawkes blinded the Basilisk making the battle much easier. Harry managed to stab it through the roof of it's mouth with the sword of Gryffindor. However, one of the Basilisk's poisonous fangs went into his shoulder. Harry was healed by Fawkes healing tears.
