The American Society of Clinical Pathology handles the certification of many types of medical technicians, including Cytotechnologists. The Cytotechnology degree is considered a bachellors degree, as such, it generally requires four-years of education. Some universities and colleges have different programs, many of which will work with an associates degree in a related field (Histology is a common one), and will confer a bachellors in Cytology in one additional year (three semesters, summer included).
