Dachshunds.
A large and controversial topic.
Basically, you shouldn't really consult wiki Answers for an answer to your issue, but maybe a vet or someone professionally trained, or perhaps a book. Anyway, considering I have a dachshund and she's my best friend, I have a good idea of what she needs.
1. Food - Dachshunds will eat dry food, or canned wet food, but dry food is better for their bowels and in other words, their poops will be nicer, for lack of better words.
2. Water - a no brainer, all living organisms need water to survive.
3. Attention & Love - these guys will need ALL the love you have to offer, they are the cutest sweetest things and you must care and show affection towards them at a young age, or as they grow older they will be unhappy and resentful towards you, and it could leave to an unhappy life for both owner and dog.
4. Watch Out! - about 25% of all dachshund get a disease of the lower and upper back, along the spine. It's when a disk in the back (usually lower part) slips out of its regular place, causing MAJOR pain for your little friend. To prevent, use EXTRA caution when lifting your dog, and lift them up when going up or down stairs and where heights are. If your dogs develops this disease, seek IMMEDIATE vet care, it could be fatal and you will need your dog treated ASAP. Your vet should tell you what to do and how to treat your dog if this atrocious scenario ever occurs.
5. Have Fun & see the Doctor often - Be lovable and kind ALWAYS towards your dachshund and they will return that kindness to you. This is your life long friend, so have fun, and love dearly. Also see the vet regularly, its recommended every 6 months at minimum, so make sure you follow that and I wish you and your friend A VERY happy life together!

∙ 11y agoMost adult breeds, no matter the breed, sleep about fourteen hours a day (counting little naps and longer snoozes). Large dogs, like the Saint Bernard can sleep longer, as much as 16 hours a day.

∙ 15y agothey should have @ least 2 hours of running a day Dogs like alot of attentiona nd play time. Try to walk him everyday if you can. Play with him as much as you can. The dog will love you if you do.

∙ 8y agoAll dogs need at least one vigorous walk a day (that means not just a stroll around the house). Depending on your dog's particular energy, it may need a second walk or an energetic game like fetch.

Why do people call dachshunds weenie or sausage dogs?
Because dachshunds have long bodies like frankfurters. They are adorably cute!!!!! I love my dachshunds! And because they have nothing better to do....

I Bought 2 puppies From Down Home Dachshunds. My dad also bought one for my mom. We love our babies and would not trade them for the world. They were obviously raised with much love.

I do not think that dachshunds have a much different behavoir, but I have noticed my dachshunds seems to like other dachshunds better than other breeds. If fact, the standard dachshund were breed to hunt in packs. Therefore, they are very content if they have other dogs to bond with. Since the miniature dachshund is derived from the standard, they also have the same temperament. They love to have other dogs around to bond with.

Standard dachshunds are becominfg less and less common as the need for mini dogs arises. I have been able to locate several standards through the classified adds. Be sure to make sure they care for their dogs, and meet thr parents. good luck!
