A new key for a BMW can be obtained by contacting your local BMW dealer. They will contact the factory in Germany that will make you a new key for your BMW.
I was informed by a BMW dealer there isn't a battery to replace and you have to order a new remote and then have it programmed by the dealer.
The keys that BMW provides are sealed...they make them that way so you have to go to the dealership to buy a new one. I followed this diy (link below) and it worked for me on my 2001 325Ci coupe.
Yes, you can have a separate car remote for a vehicle that comes with a key that has a built-in remote. You will need to order the new remote from the dealership.
The main BMW dealers seem to be quite reasonable, just take your log book in and they can make one for you without an original as all the key patterns and immobilizer codes are stored on the BMW system. I only paid about £30 for a new coded key for my E36.
The remote needs a new battery.

Turn the ignition key at a normal rate on and off about 8 or 9 times. (not to the point where the starter would engage) Your door locks will lock then unlock automatically, when this happens, press a key on the new remote. You new remote should now work.
The correct answer is...you cant. It is a sealed key and has a lithium rechargeable battery. It recharges when the key is in the ignition. Therefore, you have to get a new key. To do that, you have to go through BMW (dealership), give them the VIN # and proof you are the owner. They send it to the nearest factory and they make a new key for you. Average cost it 230 to 275.
take it to were they sold you it because they are supposed to do it for you and if they didnt u should get a refund and for the key part you neeed a new lock for a new key
