The Jaguar XJ6 that has dual tanks holds 10 gallons in each tank. There is a tank change solenoid right below the power radio antenna in the trunk. The solenoid may be replaced with a similar solenoid or the solenoid can be replaced with a tee. This will allow the gas to equalize in both tanks. The down side of the tee is that you must still fill both tanks as the gas cannot equalize as fast as one tank is filled. You must also remember that the gas gauge is indicating the gas level of both tanks.
Older tanks may have a lot of rust in them. Rock Valley Auto had replacement tanks at a reasonable cost compared to cleaning the old tanks.

There are several different models of Jaguar cars called the xj6 by the manufacturer and drivers since the inception of the range in 1968. Jaguar enthusiasts tend to refer only to the Series 1,2, and 3 cars produced between 1968 and 1992 as Xj6, or XJ12 with the 12 cylinder engine fitted . The series 1, 2, and 3 XJ6 (or XJ12) has two fuel tanks fitted. The Series 1 XJ holds 12 gallons (Imperial) in each tank, a total of 24 gallons. The Series 2 and 3 XJ holds 10.5 gallons in each tank, a total of 21 gallons. Series 1 cars for the North American market hold 11 gallons in each tank, a total of 22 gallons. T
