There are several different models of Jaguar cars called the xj6 by the manufacturer and drivers since the inception of the range in 1968. Jaguar enthusiasts tend to refer only to the Series 1,2, and 3 cars produced between 1968 and 1992 as Xj6, or XJ12 with the 12 cylinder engine fitted . The series 1, 2, and 3 XJ6 (or XJ12) has two fuel tanks fitted. The Series 1 XJ holds 12 gallons (Imperial) in each tank, a total of 24 gallons. The Series 2 and 3 XJ holds 10.5 gallons in each tank, a total of 21 gallons. Series 1 cars for the North American market hold 11 gallons in each tank, a total of 22 gallons. T

On the 1984 Jaguar XJ6, the fuel pumps are located in the fuel tank and under the car near the rear axle. The in-tank pump is responsible for drawing fuel from the tank, while the external pump helps maintain pressure in the fuel delivery system. Accessing the in-tank pump typically requires removing the rear seat and accessing the tank from above. The external pump can be accessed from underneath the vehicle.
To remove the fuel tank from a 1970 Jaguar XJ6, first ensure the vehicle is safely elevated and secured. Disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connections, then remove the mounting bolts securing the tank to the chassis. Carefully lower the tank, taking care to avoid damaging any surrounding components. Finally, ensure any residual fuel is safely contained and disposed of before completing the removal.
