These coins are very valuable depending on denomination and circulation. A well worn 1/2 real is valued at $30, while a well preserved 4 reales is valued at $600.

There was no such thing as a US dollar in 1749. Check your date or denomination and try again.
The US didn't exist in 1749 so there would not be any $20 gold coins dated 1749. The first double eagles were minted for circulation in 1850.

It is worth about £28 if you are describing the 24ct gold 0.7 gram version. Otherwise it is worth £0.63.

At that 'time' gold was worth 33.33 per troy ounce, so you could (arguably) convert current gold prices to 'pounds' of buying power on that date; to get a general idea of what it was worth.
