It depends upon the size/weight of the skein. Although skeins seem to be commonly around 100gms in weight, they can vary from 50gms to 800 gms.

If by "how much" you meant price, that also varies. You can buy a skein of yarn for a couple dollars, or it can cost upwards of $10 a skein and more. Price may or may not be an indication of quality. Unless one is familiar with the brand, actually holding a skein in your hand is often the best judge of quality for price.

What does skein mean?

After yarn is spun it is wound into a skein on a niddy-noddy or skein winder. A skein is a coil of yarn wound like a garden hose, with a circumference usually of 1-2 yards. Before it is used for knitting, a skein is placed on a yarn swift which spins freely as the yarn is pulled from it, and the yarn is then wound into a center-pull ball, or cake with a nostapinne or ball winder. Alternately, an unwitting spouse can be used as a substitute swift by placing the skein of yarn over his hands and directing him to slowly move his hands side to side as the yarn is pulled off by the person winding. The back of a chair might also be used as a substitute swift. Commercially prepared yarns already wound into a center-pull tube-less cone are often mistakenly called "skeins" because they resemble skeins that have been twisted for storage and because they lack the cardboard core typical to cones.

What is the average weight of a skein of acylic yarn?

if you mean a basic knitting worsted weight for afghans normally in yarn shops they are 100 grams skeins which is 3 1/2 ounces.. if you mean in knitting stores the smaller skeins for children's and adult fine garments they are 50 grams 1 3/4 ounces .. years ago they used to be 4 ounces and 2 ounces , but like the coffee cans they shrunk .. in craft stores the large skeins can be 200 grams or even more .. but craft yarn is exactly what it says CRAFT not for garments .. unless it states it is for afghans or sweaters etc .. so be careful of craft store yarns and make sure if you buy there that you buy for the right purpose

What is an equivalent wool to Patons Inca?

I searched and was unable to find Patons Camelot Wool. The best I can figure out is that you might be referring to Patons Kroy Socks FX in Camelot color. So, going by that thought, it would be a sock-weight yarn; or category 1 fingering weight yarn. Therefore having a ply of 4. If I've totally misunderstood what yarn you're asking about, I've attached some URLs which might help you to translate the information you have on the yarnband into ply.

How much yarn can 1 pound of wool make?

It depends on what weight the yarn is. There are charts giving approximate values for common weights such as worsted and fingering, but to find out the exact number you have to measure for yourself or consult the label, if it's a commercial yarn.

How many yards of yarn crochets 1 square foot?

It can vary greatly depending on your yarn tension and the size of the hook you are using. The more tension and the smaller the hook, the more yarn it will take. It also depends upon the type of yarn you are using. Thinner yarn (such as baby yarn or sport weight yarn) will require more yards to complete 1 square foot. Thicker yarn will require less yards to complete 1 square foot.

Why is a 1 ply paper towel weaker than a 2 ply paper towel?

My guess would be because a 2 ply paper towel has two layers instead of one.
