The Royal Mint did not produce any Crown coins for circulation from 1848 to 1886 inclusive.
A British 1879 sterling silver Crown (Five Shillings)(Victoria - young head)(Proof FDC), is excessively rare and could fetch a very high price if it remains in mint condition.
I suggest you wrap the coin up and take it to a reputable coin dealer who will be able to give a valuation based on inspection and positive identification of the coin.

Sovereigns were only struck in gold and not silver. The coin you have is more likely to be a crown (St George and the Dragon on the back) which has been enamelled. hard to value but around £20 - £30 (just the silver content alone is worth £15.50 at today's prices 13.8.2012)

The Royal Mint did not produce any Crown (Five Shilling) coins from 1903 to 1926 inclusive, Proof, pattern or otherwise. It is quite unusual that no 1911 Crown was produced since it was the Coronation year of George V. All British "silver" coins minted prior to 1920 contained 92.5% silver. There was a silver Proof FDC Halfcrown coin minted in 1911.

True silver dollars were minted from 1794 to 1935. Dollars from 1794 - 1804 all have heads facing to the right as you look at the coin. Dollars dated after that have heads facing to the left. For a head to face contrary to this pattern would mean that it's counterfeit. The way a coin is designed and struck by the mint would preclude a genuine dollar with the head facing backwards. So the answer is no.
