What markings are present on the revolvoer? Is it a top break or does the cylinder swing out for loading? on top by the cylinder there is a hinge, the tip of the barrel swings upwards
If you have a rimfire spur trigger model tip up model, than you have a model 1 1/2 second model which was made from 1868-1875.If you have a centerfire model 1 1/2 then it was made from 1878-1892.You may also have a model 2(old army .32cal rimfire tip-up)which was made from 1861-1887.This is based on the serial number that you supplied, and a limited description of the firearm in question.
Need more information. Caliber? Tip-up? Swing-out cylinder? Barrel markings and patent dates? sales@countrygunsmith.net
The 5-shot cylinder leads to the assumption of .38 S&W caliber, but that is just an assumption.
The tip of a pencil or the writing part of a pencil is called graphite.
Email us a complete description of the S&W, including any patent dates, caliber, number of chambers in the cylinder and type of action (tip up vs swing-out cylinder), and the serial number and I am sure we can help ID it for you. sales@countrygunsmith.net
