A wrestler is paid on wheather he or she can good merchandize of their character. The World Heavyweight/WWE champion are paid greater amounts because they are to travel more and perform more often then some lower ranking stars
I know in terms of Indy shows, Mike and other Chikara officials pay there wrestlers a fair amount considering the size of the venues of Chikara. Im a rookie wrestler from Montreal and I know a few Montreal wrestlers that have been to Chikara and claimed there travel was covered and then some, nowadays that is a very respectful amount for a possibly part time indy wrestler.. considering Mtl is a gooooodddd couple of hours away and have to cross the border.
Hope this helps!
