The salary obviously depends on education, experience and field of expertise. The minimum salary full time is about 13.000 DK KR / month. The average starting salary for engineers is 25.500 DKK / month for Bachelors degree and 28.000 DKK / month for someone with a Masters' degree. The entry salary for a policeman is 22.000 DKK and for a teacher in primary school is 20.000. The taxes are high in Denmark, and the take home salary would be 40% to 65% less.

Salary Paid to PhD Students

As a PhD student you are placed on a pay grade based on whether you have been working after finishing your graduate studies.

As of 1 April 2010 the monthly salary less pension before tax amounts to:

Pay grade 4 (0 year seniority): DKK 25,014 (28,469 including pension)

Pay grade 4 (1 year seniority): DKK 25,014 (28,469 including pension)

Pay grade 5 (2 years seniority): DKK 26,862 (30,586 including pension)

Pay grade 6 (3 years seniority): DKK 28,548 (32,516 including pension)

Pay grade 8 (4 years seniority): DKK 30,208 (34,418 including pension)

This is according to the Technical University of Denmark (DK). Ref.: http://goo.gl/zmwHS

Tax info:

PhD students employed in Denmark must pay Danish taxes like all other Danish employees. Foreign PhD students do not qualify for the special 25% tax rate for highly trained foreigners.

As a PhD student, you will normally pay around 50% in taxes, i.e. an aggregated tax rate of about 40% plus 8% in mandatory labour market contribution (AM-bidrag). With standard tax deductions, your net tax rate will be about 35-40% of your salary.
