Fourpence, often abbreviated as "4d," was a unit of currency in the pre-decimal British system, equivalent to one-quarter of a shilling. In terms of modern currency, fourpence would be worth approximately 1.67 pence in decimal British currency, as there were 240 pence in a pound. In the context of purchasing power, fourpence could buy a small item or a treat, similar to a few pence today.
The last British Groat (Fourpence) minted for general circulation was issued in 1888. The Fourpence continues to be minted each year as a part of the annual Maundy Set incorporating the Fourpence, Threepence, Twopence and Penny.
British coins minted in 1775 included the Guinea, Half-Guinea, Halfpenny and the Farthing. British coins in circulation in 1775 included the Five Guinea, Guinea, Half-Guinea, Shilling, Fourpence (Groat), Threepence, Twopence, Penny, Halfpenny and the Farthing. ,

A 1932 British Halfpenny is the same design as all British Halfpennies issued from 1928 to 1936. The Halfpenny is made from bronze, is 26 mm in diameter and weighs 5.658 grams. The obverse has a left facing King George V with beard and moustache with the words - "GEORGIVS V DEI GRA BRITT REX FID DEF IND IMP" which is mostly abbreviated from Latin. The literal definition is - "George V by the Grace of God, King of the British territories, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India". The reverse has the seated female warrior Britannia wearing a helmet, carrying a trident and shield, who is personifying Great Britain. There may be minor differences to the figure of Britannia over successive years. The words HALF PENNY and the year also appear on the reverse. See the link below for a picture of a 1932 Halfpenny.
