Development of television has been driven by the large companies within the industry. As none of the large companies are actively pursuing transmission of aromas, it is unlikely that we will see "smell o vision" in the near future. Our noses will have to wait a good while longer before they experience the power of television.
1960's 'Scent of Mystery' is the only movie to have been made in Smell-O-Vision, which involved releasing 30 different scents during the screening of the movie. John Water's 1982 film 'Polyester' used 'Odorama' whereby viewers were given 'scratch and sniff' cards to use at appropriate moments in the film.
