I am not a metalurgist, however, I can provide you with some valueable information here. for 396, 402, 427, and even 454, I think, they actually made 4 different crankshafts. A cast iron, and a steel, with 3/8ths rods, and the same with 7/16ths rods. The latter, in steel will be the strongest, and in the 427. and 454, from GM, redlined at 7000, and 6800, respectively.

Chevy built a 302 in the late sixties. It used a 327 block with a 283 crank.
Inside the bottom of the engine block.
The better machine shops can drill and tap the crank for you. Might be cheaper to buy a newer crank.
Rear of the engine block.
It is located on the left-hand side of the engine block near the harmonic balancer.
No the diameter of the crank journals are different.
The knock sensor is on the left side of the block below the exhaust manifold.
