Bought 2 large but somewhat older males 40+ yo (Becomes a bit hard to determine from there on) @ the Tétouan market for 22.000 Dirham + 600 Dirham (about $ 1300 a piece) for the middle man who know how to check their health, but by no means a vet. This was in end of 2011 and when we tried to sell them after 4 months we were offered 14.600 Dirham, guess we were paying their middle man now ($850 a piece), which we took on the 3rd day. I assume the real value must be somewhat in the middle of these extremes. Unless you're on the run from the law, or a plain crazy massochist, I would see no reason to buy one for any other reason than its meat, which you couldn't stomach after spending any lenght of time with one : the Horror of the sound, sight (esp. them pissing in their own mouth) and above all the smell ....
True, but like a horse : it may be strong but unless it's a race horse, it won't fetch more than the price of the meat ...
When you're a fresh off the spanish ferry german, : up to 50 euro. When you're in Tetouan : a test drive before you buy : free, even if you change your mind. In Oman, you-ride-it, you buy it : 7000 rial is +/- 14K euro = 17500 US dollar

No. Horse racing is so much more widespread, popular and well-known, and generates a lot more money than camel racing.
