Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman was known for successfully getting slaves to freedom in the north, and knowing slave owners, they really did not like that very much, they wanted her success to end, so they put up a higher reward for her capture, so more slaves would stay on their plantation. So it was really "the higher the reward, the more likely people would really look for her."
4,ooo dollars was offered for the capture of Harriet Tubman because they really wanted to get her.
No. Awards and honors are a modern idea. In her time people were able to know they did good because they felt it. They didn't need the reward.
Harriet Tubman escaped at the age of 29 from slavery in Maryland where she was born, when her owner died. She became a conductor for the Underground Railroad and was later a nurse and a spy for the Northern side in the American Civil War. She made 19 different trips from the South, going north to the safety of Canada. She saved 300 slaves. Slaves were hidden in covered carts with false bottoms and driven between the underground railroad 'stations' where they were fed and hidden during daylight hours before moving on. They often had to hide in forests, cross rivers and climb mountains. Slave owners offered a reward of $40,000 for Harriet's capture, but she was never caught. After the war Harriet ran a home for elderly African - Americans until she died in 1903.

She saved the world by leading herself and other slaves into freedom. Harriet Tubman was very brave and smart to do what she did. She was smart because she came up with a plan on how to free herself and she was brave because she took the risk of escaping. She could have gotten caught but never did. When Harriet had freed herself she went back and helped other people get their freedom they diserved. Harriet didn't just think of herself she wasn't selfish or otherwise she would have never been famous she would have just been a normal person and would of never been famous.
