Antarctica is 5,400,000 sq miles (14,000,000 sq km) in size. Of this, 5,300,000 sq mi (13,720,000 sq kms) is ice covered, leaving 100,000 sq mi ( 280,000 sq km) ice free.

This works out at 98.15% ice covered, 1.85% ice free.

According to the Princeton University publication, Earth and Planetary Science Letters, in its April 2015 edition:

"During the past decade, Antarctica's massive ice sheet lost twice the amount of ice in its western portion compared with what it accumulated in the east, according to Princeton University researchers who came to one overall conclusion - the southern continent's ice cap is melting ever faster.

"The researchers "weighed" Antarctica's ice sheet using gravitational satellite data and found that from 2003 to 2014, the ice sheet lost 92 billion tons of ice per year."

All of Antarctica is covered by an ice sheet, in some places over two miles thick. There is land under the ice, a continent, unlike the Arctic, which is all sea. The ice sheet covers all but about two percent of the continent.

The number you want is about 70% of the earth's fresh water is frozen in the ice sheet that covers the continent.

Frozen sea water surrounds the continent during winter, essentially doubling the size of the continent -- 14+million square miles times two. It is difficult to calculate the amount of frozen sea ice, since its depth varies around the continent.
