How much usable growing soil is on the Earth?

As large as the earth is, not much is available for farming. It is estimated that only about 1/32 of the earth is arable or able to be farmed efficiently. That is about 615,312.5 square miles.

Why is it that some land may never be cultivated?

Some areas of the world are simply not arable given current technologies or resources. There are a number of requisite conditions for land to be arable, e.g. able to grow crops on. Additionally, those requirements can change based on the crop being grown. For example, rice needs much more water than potatoes or olives. The four main conditions that can prevent land from being arable are:The land is too dry -- This generally applies to both hot and cold deserts. The slope of the land or gradient is too high (even for terracing) -- This generally applies to mountains and canyons. The average temperature is too cold -- This generally applies to regions at latitudes greater than 50 degrees (60 degrees in Europe because of the Gulf Stream). The quality of the soil is too poor or surrounding plant-life crowds out crops -- This generally applies to tropical rainforests and areas with depleted soils.

What have people learned from global warming?

Not much, I'm afraid. We know what causes it, burning fossil fuel, but we won't stop burning it. Governments know this, but they are only interested in getting re-elected and not disturbing the economy. There are no great statesmen and women who are looking fifty years ahead. We know that cutting down trees means that more carbon dioxide is left in the atmosphere, but we still cut down trees, all over the world. We can see the pine forests of British Columbia destroyed by the pine beetle, because winters are now not cold enough to kill it. We see all this, but we do nothing!

Why british people speak so much about the weather?

if you are meaning to descirbe the weather or theirweather, then simply give the degrees of the temperature. if you want to descirbe it without degrees, then give details about how you feel or feelings about the weather. for example, if its cold then say "its so cold im numb." or if its hot then say "its so hot you can cook a egg on the ground."

What are the similarities and differences between UK climate and Indian climate?

The weather in India varies depending on the location. In terms of temperature, India experiences a much warmer climate than Britain. Southern India experiences a subtropical/tropical climate with heavy rain during the wet season (warmer season 30C-40C). The dry season of southern India is relatively cooler and experiences much less rainfall. The northern section of India is much dryer than the south, but still receives plenty of rainfall during the wet season and can have very hot days. Britain experiences a much cooler oceanic climate. Winters are cold, but are much warmer than neighbouring European countries. Snow is a frequent occurrence, but will precipitate in minute amounts. Many British cities experience constant light rain during the winter with short intervals. British summers are relatively cool with an average maximum temperature of 22C in most cities. Rainfall during the summer is frequent, and can come in large quantities at times. Britain is known to be a very wet place, however this isn't really the case. Most Australian, American and European cities record more rainfall that Britain's capital, being London, which only records 500mm of rainfall a year, compared to Sydney, Australia which records up to 1,200mm of rainfall. Indian weather varies, but in general it is much wetter and much warmer than the British climate.
