West Virginia doesn't have any mountains. It has hills and bluffs.
Mountains are caused by sliding plates under the ocean and near volcanoes.
Hills and bluffs are caused by ice glaciers slowly floating down river years ago.
I would beg to differ your answer that West Virginia does not have any Mountains since we as a state are located in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains, which are the oldest mountain's in the United States. That being said they have been weathered to be "smaller" or "shorter" making them seem as though they would be consider as hills. Being the oldest, they have been weathered for much longer than say the Rockies or the Nevada Mountain's.
As for your information given about how Mountains are formed I agree our Mountain's were formed by plates sliding together under the ocean. The ocean then left leaving its deposits of animals etc. behind. This left us with some of the riches coal, gas, oil and Limestone seams around.
Well, it is called "The Mountain State" because it is almost entirely inside the Appalachian Mountain chain, but these mountains are SO OLD that they have been rounded down almost to hills. At one point, they were the highest mountains in the world, but erosion has majorly reduced them. So, it is VERY HILLY, but I'm not sure if I can call it "mountainous" per say.
there are..........1,568,257 mountains in west Virginia thank you and come again :))) yes i agree we have lots of mountains that's more than Colorado and California:)))
