A very small percentage so far, 0.05%. However, scientists and the public are looking to have more of the world's energy come from solar power plants.
"Solar power...would represent the annual output from 150 coal-fired power plants" by 2025, the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) and Greenpeace said. The report said photovoltaic systems, which turn sunlight into power, now generate 0.05 percent of world electricity and could rise to 2.5 percent in 2025, the main horizon for the report, and then leap to 16 percent in 2040.
Not many people know this, but solar, wind, and electricity only account for less than 1% of the worlds energy combined.
The United States uses about 15% of the world's solar power for electricity generation. This puts the U.S. as one of the top users of solar power globally.
Solar power does much for the world. You see, solar power uses the sun instead of electricity so it doesnt pollute the air.SHORT VERSION:Solar power uses sun so it is healthy.XOXO.Sixes
about 7% od Americans use solar power
95%
Irrelevant, solar power is completely useless
Solar cars will help the world a lot.
Solar power has advantages. One advantage of solar power is that solar power can be consistently used for power. Solar energy will never run out. Another advantage of solar power is that the energy is clean. Typical solar panels live for about ten years. Energy payback from a typical installation is about 40 years. As a result, most panels will never give back as much power as they took to build.

That will vary a lot, depending on the size of the solar cell.
In some parts of the world, there is NO sun (to speak of) for as much as six months! In these areas, solar power is out of the question, unless there is a monstrously large storage system that can hold the energy during the six months of sunlight!
