Park the car on a level surface. Drain the oil, change the filter, and add 4.5 quarts of the correct weight oil. Start the engine and run for 1 minute. Shut down and wait 30 minutes. Check the oil level and add as necessary to reach the full mark. You now know the capacity.
No, it will not, design is much too different to make it feasable. For a 2000 intrepid you must use a 1998-2001 engine. Check out dodgeintrepid.net for a ton of info on these cars.

I had to replace the engine in my 2002 Intrepid and it cost me a good $3,500. They have to match the year and vin number up with a compatible engine and the mechanic will need to tear the whole front end apart to lift the engine in/out. I can tell you there are very few engines left when I was searching for one a month ago.
The 2000 Dodge Intrepid with the 2.7L 6-cylinder came in two engines with code 'U' and 'EER.' Both engines specify a engine oil fill of 5-quarts, including the filter. 5 and 10W30 can be used in this engine. 0W30 can be used in arctic and severe winter conditions, in addition to all-season use.
