You should inflate the tire to the pressure recommended on the label on the drivers door jamb of the vehicle, not the max press on the tire.
* the maker of the car did not make your tires. The number on the door is not for the best tire ware it was for the best ride quility. You should refer to the tire manufacturer. They recomend in most cases 3 to 5 pounds from the max tire pressure.

The tire marking tells you how much pressure the tire can safely take, and the info on the jamb tell you what the the vehicle should need. The jamb value should be lower than the max on the tire, use that.
For the tires? It should tell you the max tire pressure on the sidewall of your tire. it should say max psi. Don't put more than the max psi. you should put less.

If you look at the sidewall there will be a value written there stating the max allowable tire pressure. Use that, or whatever lower pressure you can w/o getting flats.
The correct tire pressure depends on the tire. The max pressure will be listed on the sidewall of the tire. I usually run about 5lbs less than the max. Always check your tire pressure when the tires are cold.
