Hello, I would like you to know that I have studied salamanders for a very long time and am probably the best and most salamander wise person to answer your question. Anyway, I recommend that you supply your salamander with crickets as the main part of it's diet. The crickets must be dusted in a calcium supplement before they are fed to the salamander. The crickets can be fed dead or alive however, alive represents the natural hunt for food in the wild. Your salamander will need diet supplements not pills but supplements. These suplements will ensure your salamander stays healthy. Wax worms and meal worms are popular supplements however they are not the healthiest and should be used sparingly. Fruit such as banana can make a great snack for both you and your salamander but, do not bite the fruit and then feed the rest to the salamander. Allways cut off a small piece for the salamander and eat the rest yourself. As for water a salamander does not need a water dish. You simply must find yourself a plant mister wash it out with soap and water. MAKE SURE YOU RINSE OUT ALL THE SOAP VERY WELL! Then fill it with water and spray all over the enclosure your salamander is living in. Keep spraying until medium sized droplets of water are forming on the plants inside the enclosure. The enclosure must have live plants in order to simulate the salamanders natural habitat. Change the water in the spray bottle every day and spay the enclosure at least twice a day. Your salamander will enjoy licking the droplets and/or rubbing it's body against them. I hope this helps you and your salamander get off to a healthy start living together.

ubstrate:Recommended to Use Coconut Fiber(Ecoearth) with a Mix of Organic Top soil(Check to see that there is no fertilizers or peat moss, etc) Have the Substrate At Least 4 Inches to allow For Burrowing

Water: Provide a Water Dish Big Enough To Have It Submerse Itself Only 1-2 Inches Deep, Clean Like Daily, Mist(can use a spray bottle) Your Tank So The Substrate is Moist(Not So Wet That You Can Wring It Out But Not Super Dry Either) For Reconstituting Coconut Fiber Blocks(Or Use The Bagged Ones) or For Misting or The Waterdish Use Dechlorinated or Aged Tap Water. Not Distilled.

Feeding: Use Tongs/Forceps or Hand Feed. They Arent The Best Hunters so Dont Leave Live Food Free In The Tank They Will Just Hide and live, Try Like Dusted Crickets, Earthworms, Chopped Nightcrawlers, They Will Most Likely Not Eat Pellets like Ever.

Tank: 10 Gallons is 'Okay' For One. 20 Long Might Be Able to House 2.

Hides: Have a Few Hides Incase He Doesnt Wanna Burrow(Can Burrow for Weeks) Make Sure Theyre Nice and Dark.

Ventilation: Recommend a Wire Mesh Top But Make Sure That Theres No Big Gaps Where One Could Escape Out Of.

Lighting: Not Needed They Are Nocturnal. Dont Provide a Light That Gives Out Any heat.

*Note* If You Gather Worms or Other Bugs From The Wild Make Sure The Area Doesnt Use Any Pesticides.

It is a part of aging skin. You see when a tiger salamander is about to shed it wont move much. If you look closely your tiger salamander, it will look very ugly.
