It varies.
A person that only uses it only for other services (YouTube, myspace, facebook) will have around 5-50Mb.
Someone that Sends a lot of emails with attachments (photos, files, music) will have around 500mb-1Gb
Someone who uses it to store their photos, music, files, etc. and never delete anything for years, will have 1gb-5Gb
Those are rough estimates, as everyone is different.

User can send a mail from Gmail account to other ones. Hotmail and Yahoo are examples of those. Gmail provides cross server mailing too.
This is just my opinion after having an account on both. I think that Hotmail is more fun and user friendly.
First you have to go to the hotmail site and look for the register new user icon. Upon clicking that, you need to fill out information for your email account. When finished, you are right to go with your Hotmail account.
There's no limit in how much space you can use for all your videos.
It is currently a free service; therefore, the user (i.e. person sending the email) pays nothing.
One can use the service MSN Hotmail Member Directory to find friends and family members. With that service one is able to seach and find hotmail users.

Storage can be divided in any number of ways. If you use quotas, you can assign each user a specific amount of space. If you do not use quotas, each user can use as much space as they can, until there is no free space left.
The administrator can set disk quotas.
