Unless the number of Koi is meant to be the number of people within that person's family, then nothing. As I always say, a lot of tattoos are meant as decoration solely, and many don't have "meanings" per se. It could simply be that 9 is the person's favorite number, it was meant to fill in the space on the arm, etc.

I use the 100 gallons per koi estimate and have had no problems for the past 4 years of having my pond. I have ten koi in a 1000 gallon pond and a second 1500 gallon pond that is connected with a stream that has 14 koi. Two waterfall boxes, one skimmer and two 3600 gallon pumps running it. PH is always around 7.2 and haven't had any diseases, etc occur in the 4 years.

No, unless you want the catfish to eat all your koi/goldfish--catfish grow fast and they will eat anything, including your other fish.I have Blue Channel Catfish from about 1 inch two years ago, now 14 inches mixed in with both large and baby Koi. The Catfish eats the Koi food and interacts with them like nothing. I have never lost a fish. I think the key is getting a catfish when they are young and they can adapt, they're mostly bottom feeders and won't harm your Koi based on my experience.
