How much time and energy are needed for good study habits?

When you first begin to change your study habits, it seems to take longer -- this is just because you're used to your old habits, though. Good study habits actually take less time once you get used to them, because you don't waste all that time studying the wrong way (the sort of studying where you end up having to go over and over and over something, and still miss that question).

Energy-wise, good studying takes more concentration and focus, but is actually less tiring than bad study habits. You're focused in on your work with good habits, and it takes less time and energy overall.
