On a 'suspended" sentence you don't "serve" ANY time incarcerated. There may (and probably will) be a period of probation, both supervised and un-supervised, which could run for the entire 11 years. All depends on the sentencing judge and his decision.

Rehabilitation. If it is felt that the defendant got involved in a one-time offense and can be rehabilitated without a prison sentence, a suspended sentence can be considered.

Do you serve jail time with a suspended imposition of sentence?

How was the sentence imposed? (i.e.- a 2 year sentence - serve 60 days with the remainder suspended? -OR- the ENTIRE 2 years sentence suspended?) It all depends upon the wording of the judge's decision.

How long does a suspended sentence last?

A 'suspended sentence' is exactly what the phrase implies. You were found guilty of 'something,' but the judge 'suspended' the imposition of any sentence. End of story. You walk away, although, with a conviction on your record..

You'd assume they'd serve the 7 years they were sentenced with (unless it's a suspended sentence). They would have to serve 7 years, unless they are given a parole period before the full term.

What is suspended execution of sentence in Missouri?

This means that the sentence will be given at a later time. This may happen if you have extenuating circumstances that allow you to put off the sentence for a time.

Non parole period and supsended sentence?

a non parole period is when a person is sentenced and a time is placed on their sentence in which they will not be allowed out of jail until that time is up. For example, if you were sentenced to a total of 8 years in prison with a non-parole period of 6 years, you would have to spend 6 years in prison before having the possiblility to be released early. Suspended sentence is when a trial has finished, the sentence can be suspended to a later date for various reasons.

What is a suspended sentence?

Example: If you were found guilty and sentenced to either a fine or time in jail BUT the judge suspended the sentence.... it usually is suspended based on something that the judge wants from you in return (e.g: drive with no tickets for the nest 3 years - or - live your life with no police involvement for the next 2 years - or - something similar to that). If you fail to do these things the judge is requesting of you (in return for the suspended sentence), he could re-impose the previously suspended sentence and have you serve it as punishment.

What is the meaning of deferred imposition of sentence?

A suspended imposition of sentence or s.i.s. is basically suspends a sentence. There is usually a duration put on the s.i.s. that is known as the probation. Usually a person has a s.i.s. when they plead guilty or plea bargain for a crime. Basically, the courts are seeing if a person can act better. If a person gets in trouble again during their probation period, then the court can punish the person for the crime that they committed previously. If the person does not get in trouble during their probation period, then the crime is forgiven and the person is not convicted.

If a person is arrested and the judge sentences them to task what does that mean?

Generally a judge will impose an incarceration time then suspend the sentence if the convicted person completes the alternative penatlty. As an example, a person is given a 1 year suspended sentence with X-amount of hours of community service to be served within that year. If the person does not complete the community service requirement the judge can send that person to jail to serve the entire original sentence of 1 year.

Can I have a marijuana misdemeanor with a one year suspended sentence transfered from Alabama to California?

Not enough info. Are you on probation? Was the sentence suspended simply on the promise that you not re-offend within a given amount of time? Do you have any residence requirement or travel restriction connected with the suspended sentence? Need to know this info before a knowledgeable answer can be given. Best suggestion: contact the court that sentenced you and ask them.
