If you have a pet is is VITAL that it has access to fresh water at all times. It needs to be able to drink when it feels thirsty, not just when you feed it. Imagine being thirsty yourself and not being able to get a drink.
Make sure your pet water is clean and full at all times and that your pet knows where the water is and can get to it.
Any quest items you get from the monster drops you take to the Pet Tamer and use his Feed Bag and drag the quest item to there and it will be converted into pet feed.

You can purchase from a Pet Shop (located in Taverly) and use at level 4 Summoning. You feed it raw meat.
In Wizard101, you can feed your pet snacks by opening your backpack, selecting the snacks you want to use, and then dragging them to your pet's icon. Alternatively, you can right-click on the pet and choose the "Feed" option, which will bring up your snack inventory. Select the snacks you wish to give them, and your pet will enjoy the treats, which can help them level up and gain new abilities. Remember that different pets may prefer different types of snacks!

If you are talking about fish, I have a betta fish, and usually you use tap water, I do. Also if you would like to have safer water for the fish then you can use cleaners that you can buy at pretty much any pet store. I hope this helped!

Once you complete the hunter quest line to get whatever pet you want, right click on your pets details under your details at the top left. Select info. It will tell you which types of food your pet likes to eat. Get some of that type of food. usually you will have some in your inventory anyway. Now go into your spell-book and abilities. Go to the Beast Mastery tab on the right. Find "Feed Pet". Click on it. Now go into your inventory and find the food. Click on it. It will feed your pet. A simple way to feed your pet is to create a macro to feed it. First, open up your macro interface by typing /macro into the chat edit box, this will bring up the interface. Select the character specific macro tab and hit the "new" button. Type in a name for the macro making sure the "?" icon is highlighted. Edit the macro as below: #showtooltip Feed Pet /cast feed pet /use <item your pet likes> This will cast feed pet and use the food that you put in (replace <item your pet likes> with the actual name of the food). Of course you will have to replace the item with another type of food if you switch pets and the new pet does not like the food, or if your pet out grows the food. There are some macros that will autoselect the food type based on the family of pet you currently have, but that is another question all together.
You need to feed your pet on a regular basis, so that over time it will grow into a full pet. It depends on the pet for how long it will take. You can also use real cash, to grow your pet right away.
