about 2 liters per day, however some trees may take up a lot of water per day. Suggestions is to make sure you never let the water level go below the base of the tree, as doing such may neglect it from getting enough water at a time.
a banna tree needs 6 litres a day of water
you could use a rain guage but newly planted trees and shrubs need regular water to survive!(: hope this helps.

You will find if you don't cut them down they tend to last much longer. you have to cut them down so that the tree will drink water ?
if its a young tree, water it daily after sunset. if its a grown tree, dont worry about it unless u live in a dessert area. if its indoors, u should water after sunset. most tree's dont need watering if there outside.
the leaves and roots take the water ^^
You should water one a little everyday. If it's raining, don't water it. If it gets too much water, it will die.

To drink water
The day you plant it, you should water it daily for 2 weeks, then after that, you should water it every 3 days for 3-10 weeks. After about 10 weeks from planting, you should water the tree weekly.
i would water it twice a week in summer, at least 20 litres per time, a total of 40 litres per week.
