It was thought that High Force (at 71 feet) is the highest waterfall in England, however - Cautley Spout (in Cumbria) is higher (590 feet). Other falls of notable heigh are Hadraw Force in N. Yorks (98 feet) and Fell Beck Falls drops down Gaping Hill Hole to a depth of 315 feet.
Splashing
The water itself does not move backwards, but the rock forming the ledge over which the water falls is gradually eaten away by the force of the water, so the edge of the waterfall moves slowly backwards.
