Depending on what you mean by 'crops' I would say half a cup and thereafter when results start to show 3/4 of a cup and after that one whole cup when the crop as grown what you have desired.
To grow crops you need sun and water over time the crops will grow. Don't give the crops too much water or sunlight or it will overflow.....
To keep crops, you have to take care of them by not giving them too much sun and water but you still have to give them some.
