Hanging a curtain rod at the same level as the blinds, but extending the rod about 18″ wider than the window on both sides creates the look of a much wider window and allows the curtain panels to hang in front of the wall instead of encroaching on the window and blocking lots of much-needed light.
Generally curtain rods extend three inches or four inches on either side of the window. This allows for the curtains to be drawn open and hang on either side of the window.
Simply measure the width and height of your window, and choose a curtain panel that is the proper height and wider than your window. Always choose a curtain that is "too wide", because it can be bunched up horizontally to cover the window.
A general minimum length for a shower curtain is 70x70. Now depending on how wide/tall your shower is, you may need a longer or wider curtain. I suggest you measure your shower and find out for sure before you buy.
