O I am a fortune's fool?

In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, just after Romeo kills Tybalt, Romeo exclaims, "O, I am fortune's fool!" (3.1.136). He means that "fortune" (chance, bad luck) has played him for a fool by leading him to kill the cousin of his new wife, Juliet.

How many sonnets are in Shakespeare famous sonnet series?

There are at least three sonnets in Romeo and Juliet. The prologue to Act One is a sonnet, as is the prologue to Act Two. Romeo and Juliet also create a unique two person sonnet in Act One, Scene Five starting where Romeo says "If I profane with my unworthiest hand" (Romeo 1.5.91) and ending with "Then move not while my prayer's effect I take" (Romeo 1.5.104).

What version of Romeo and Juliet should kids watch?

It probably depends on what you find to be difficult for children to get from a genuine performance of the Shakespeare play. The issues people may have with the play as Shakespeare wrote it are its length, Shakespeare's language, the idea of a stageplay, the sexual nature of the couple's relationship (indicated by nudity in some versions), violence, and the tragic ending. One option is the version from the series Shakespeare: The Animated Tales. It is a cartoon, and it is only 25 minutes long. Being a cartoon, there is no nudity and no real people appear to be hurt. It was expressly developed for television for a general audience. It is often available from libraries but is very difficult to find and expensive to purchase. If nudity is your only concern, you should steer clear of the 1968 film (Juliet's breasts and Romeo's buttocks), and to a lesser extent the 1996 film (Juliet's naked back). All others are no problem. The real story of Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy and cannot be told without saying that Romeo and Juliet both die at the end. Kids generally learn about death at a relatively young age, when a grandparent or family pet dies. Once they understand this concept, there is no reason why they cannot understand a tragic ending. Basically, if you are worried about talking to kids about death, suicide, violence or the kind of love that develops into marriage, you should not be trying to show them Romeo and Juliet at all. Wait until they are older, say, eight or nine. Someone suggested Gnomeo and Juliet. The story of Gnomeo and Juliet unfortunately is very different from the Shakespeare play. Although there are characters with similar names and with similar relationships, they do not have the same characters and they interact differently. Most importantly, nothing anyone does in the movie has any lasting unfortunate consequences. Dead people don't stay dead; by a deus ex machina they all come alive again. So as a result, Gnomeo and Juliet is a comedy, not a tragedy. The same can be said of another Cartoon-using-elements-of-the-play offering, Romeo and Juliet: Sealed With a Kiss. These cartoons are safe but they are not Romeo and Juliet; you will just have to tell them the real story later.

Another exaggerated, but somewhat true version of love may be Edward and Bella from "The Twilight Series".
